Southampton plays a draw against Tottenham Hotspur

Southampton ended their 11th winless run with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premeir League on 21st of January.

It was another unlucky game for the Saints’ manager, Mauricio Pellegrino. However, he commented that this result didn’t worry him, as this was a part of his job.

The opener came as Davinson Sanchez launched the ball into his own net from Ryan Bertrand’s cross. Three minutes afterwards, Harry Kane scored his 99th Premier League goal, equalising the score.

Both sides struggled to finish splendidly, but neither one could create a worthy chance to fire successfully in. Tottenham rallied later on, with Kane’s unsuccessful attempts and Saints’ Sofiane Boufal’s false aim.

It was a major lost chance for Tottenham as they could cut the deficit a level on with Liverpool in the league table, who are in the fourth position. They might dive deeper off if in the next Liverpool’s match they beat Swansea.

Southampton are in the relegation zone, one point behind Stoke. Their play had more potential than they could show. In the early game they had attempts  with Manolo Gabbadini’s effort. Even after Kane fired the equaliser, they didn’t give in and continued to go fight further in the same spirit. With their recent parting from the defender Virgil van Dijk, who has joined Liverpool for £75m, Pellegrino needs to make a new investment to boost team’s motivation.
