Daniel Ricciardo wins the Chinese Grand Prix 2018

Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo made a chaotic first finish in the Chinese Grand Prix. Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas ended behind him, being followed by Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.

The decisive action took place during the safety-car period. Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was in lead, however, after his pit stop on lap 20, Bottas took over. Shortly after that, the safety-car kicked in. It was caused by Toro Rosso’s Pierre Gasly’s collision with Brendon Harley.

Bottas was ahead of Raikkonen, being followed by Ricciardo, Vettel, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. Red Bull decided to make a pit stop to switch to fresh soft tyres, while Mercedes and Ferrari remained with their medium-compound ones.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was racing along Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton when Ricciardo dived in and continued past. The Australian took over Bottas and Vettel later on to seal the win.
On lap 43, Vettel was caught by Verstappen, who slid from inside against the German to trigger a collision and receive a 10-second penalty.

Hamilton finished fifth, but due to Verstappen’s penalty, he was promoted to the fourth.
Renault’s Nico Hulkenberg finished sixth. In the final laps, Vettel was chasing him, however, McLaren’s Fernando Alonso overdrove him to finish ahead.

The next race will take place at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Ferrari might be the fittest for the track, but since Ricciardo won the race last year, it remains a mystery how will it look this time.
