Real Madrid defeats Liverpool in the Champions League finalPosted: May 30, 2018
Real Madrid gained the third successive Champions League title after defeating Liverpool by a 3-1 score on 26th of May.
The feast began in the second half after Karim Benzema scored the opener in the 51st minute. Liverpool was already devastated after losing their top scorer, Mohamed Salah due to an injury in the first half. They might have found some relief after Sadio Mane equalized the score four minutes after Benzema’s opener.
However, Gareth Bale ruined the night for the Reds. After he stepped off the bench, Liverpool couldn’t find any chance to defend. The first goal came in the 64th minute, and his next was the highlight of the match, as he scored from a 30-yard shot past Lorius Karius.
This win has become the third successive for Real’s boss, Zinedine Zidane. He became the third European manager in the Champions League history to win the competition three successive times. He has been often praised for his abilities and obscure tactical approach, and this game has shown his invincibility in the Champions League.
For Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp it became another disappointing finale. He lost the third successive time after arriving at Anfield, with defeats in the Europa League and League Cup finals in 2016.
