Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur climbs up one position in the Premier League tables after Wednesday match against Southampton. The Spurs are currently at #3  with 33 points, bringing former thrid-position Chelsea down to #4. Southampton remains in the relegation zone with 9 points.

Spurs manager Pochettino was only half pleased with the performance of his side, commenting that the ‘job was done’, but he was still unhappy with the fact that the team let Southampton create so many chances to score. On the other hand, Ralph Hasenhuttl, who takes charge of the Saints’ management on Thursday, got to see his side crumble in front of the Spurs’ aggressive play, managing to drive home only one of the many chances they had throughout the game.

The score opened with Harry Kane driving the ball home only nine minutes into the game. Brazilian Lucas Moura doubled the advantage in the 51st minute, closely followed by Heung-Min Son hurling a Henry Kane shot into the Saints’ net. Southampton had several chances to score, but they were twice denied by Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. However, Chalie Austin did manage to score once during stoppage time, setting it to 3-1 in the Spurs’ favour.

Southampton is to meet longtime rivals and fellow strugglers Cardiff on Saturday, and Tottenham is facing Leicester on the same day.
