Mexico defeats Scotland in an international friendlyPosted: June 6, 2018
Mexico beat Scotland by a 1-0 score in their pre World Cup encounter on 3rd of June.
Giovani Dos Santos ensured the Mexican side’s win after he fired an early goal in the 13th minute.
Mexico could have finished with a more convincing score, however, many of their efforts proved unsuccessful. Hirving Lozano attempted but his shot went against the crossbar and other players were confronted with the same issue. On the Estadio Azteca, the hosts were still dominant against the inexperienced Scottish squad.
This was the first game for Mexico with their new coach in charge, Juan Carlos Osorio. They secured the win and even though it could have been more convincing, it wasn’t a bad game for them.
The Scottish side appeared to be confused after an unsuccessful start, but they showed severe attitude even in the closing minutes.
Mexico dominated much of the game and the debutant keeper Jon McLaughlin had little time to reflect. After the break, he was replaced with another debutant, Scott Bain, who contributed a lot in securing a clean sheet in the second half.
In the late match, Scotland had numerous chances to score an equalizer, however, Johnny Russell’s late strike hit the post, similarly to Lozano’s effort in the first half. Scotland could have made the difference in the late game, but even if their attempts proved to be unsuccessful, they secured an image of challenging opponents.
