Manchester United plays a draw against BurnleyPosted: January 3, 2018
Manchester United has been held back from their title hopes after playing a 2-2 draw against Burnley on 26th of December.
The opener was fired by Ashley Barnes in the 3rd minute to give Burnley an early lead. Steven Defour doubled the score 30 minutes afterwards from a brilliant 30-yard free-kick.
Manchester United was dominating in possession with 70%, and in the second half, they managed to respond shortly after the break. Jesse Lingard scored one back for United in the 53rd minute and saved his team from a defeat as he equalised the score in the injury time.
United is now 12 points behind the leaders of the league, Manchester City, and the draw is still a negative achievement in this situation. Their hopes for the title might not be over yet, as long they will try preventing similar results as this and in their previous encounter against Leicester, which also ended in a draw, due to a late Foxes’ equaliser.
Burnley showed an impressive performance again, with a similar outcome as in the previous season, when they played a 0-0 draw against United. Defour’s free-kick was the most spectacular goal of the match, which also reminded their opponents, why they have reached such brilliant results in this season. Sean Dyche was pleased with his side’s performance, praising the team for managing to face such a strong team without being brought down by the incoming intense pressure.
