Everton loses to Atalanta in the Europa LeaguePosted: December 3, 2017
Everton lost to Atalanta by a 1-5 score at Goodison Park in the Europa League’s Group E on 23rd of November.
Bryan Cristante fired the opener in the 12th minute from a close distance. Afterwards, the whole first half remained goalless and Everton was put to test right after the break.
Alejandro Gomez launched a penalty shot that followed to be saved by Toffees keeper, Joel Robles. However, their joy wasn’t long as Cristante doubled the score shortly afterwards.
Sandro Ramirez fired a consolation goal back in the 71st minute. Shortly before the end, a wave of attacks followed, which overwhelmed the Toffees into the extreme.
Robin Gosens scored from a volley in the 86th minute and Andreas Cornelius managed to score another two goals from which one in the injury time, to take all the hopes from the hosts of a positive outcome.
Robles’ performance wasn’t the cause of Everton’s downfall. The keeper made his best, and on the contrary, saved his team from a bigger shame. He made a couple of brilliant saves and managed to prevent an incoming penalty shot.
Their boss, David Unsworth, said earlier that he wants to do the best for his team, but his hopes have been reduced with recent performances. While he won a trophy in 1995 in the FA Cup for the club, and as a coach gained the win with the under-23 team in the league, here he proves to be much unprepared.
