Arsenal gets defeated by FC Koln in the Champions LeaguePosted: December 1, 2017
Arsenal was defeated by the German team, FC Koln, in the Group H of the Champions League on 23rd of November.
The only goal was produced in the 62nd minute by Sehrou Guirassy’s penalty after Mathieu Debuchy challenged him.
The Gunners prevailed in almost all aspects having 70% possession and twice as many shots on target. Francis Coquelin made an effort in the first half, but it went against the post.
Arsenal is still in the lead in their group possessing 10 points, while Red Star Belgrade and Koln are behind by 4 points. If Koln will win their next match again, they will have a chance for qualifying in the Europa League.
Arsene Wenger introduced a special arrangement releasing Danny Welbeck, who was out before due to an injury, and Jack Wilshere altogether with Olivier Giroud in the same formation, which is a rare scene. Alex Iwobi substituted Welbeck after the break, though the midfielder commented that he could still play. It was a performance that lacked a certain amount of drive with Coquelin being the only one who produced an impressive effort.
Though it wasn’t their best play, Wenger managed to test a different formation, which offered also some pleasant results. The teenager, Reiss Nelson, played brilliantly his part, managing to become a threat in many moments of the game.
In this competition, Arsenal plays next against Bate Borisov on 7th of December, before they go to Burnley in the Premier League.
